According to the California Civil Rights Department, hate violence can look like:
- Threats, verbal or written
- Physical assault or attempted assault
- Hate-related graffiti, including swastikas and other offensive symbols
- Cross-burning
- Bomb threats
- Arson
- Disturbance of religious meetings
- Vandalism or property damage
